I came up with the idea for this post after reading a similar post on another blog. The topic works so well with the overall theme of my blog I couldn’t resist but to write my own post.
So here is my list of the top 10 dumb and ridiculous excuses people have for not starting an online business.
1. I can’t afford to start an online business. This is a common excuse, but the fact is, most people spend more money eating out all week then it costs to start an online business. Even if you are truly flat broke, or even homeless, if you can make it to the library to gain access to the Internet, you can make money without a product, website, and without money.
2. I don’t have a product. You don’t need a product. Affiliate marketing allows you to earn commissions selling other people’s products. Furthermore, with programs like Google Adsense and CPA offers, you can make money when someone so much as clicks on an advertiser’s ad on your website.
3. Webmaster’s are too expensive. Not if you find the right one. There are Internet marketing forums and marketplaces you can go online right now and find someone to set you up a basic HTML website for as little as $10. And if you don’t want to pay for a webmaster you can build your own website…
4. I don’t have the technical skills to build a website. Can you create a word document or compose an email? If so, then you can build a website. Most website builders allow you to use a familiar tool bar and text area to design your web pages and your website is generated upon clicking the SAVE button. Seriously! Stop being afraid to learn a new skill, it’s holding you back.
5. I am not business minded. If you are not business minded it’s because you choose not to be. No one starts off knowing all the answers. You just have to get started and you become more business savvy as you move forward.
6. I tried that before and it didn’t work. It didn’t work or you didn’t work? That’s usually the case when people say that. But even if it’s not the case, so what. The fact that one venture didn’t work out is no excuse to give up. Stand up, dust yourself off, and move forward…not backwards.
7. It’s involves too much work. Quick question…how much work do you do at your job? I know people making $10,000/month working 4 hours a day. This is unheard of in corporate America or brick and mortar businesses.
8. I can’t compete with big companies. You won’t have to compete with big companies because you will be utilizing free promotion strategies that level the playing field. Their big advertising budgets hold no weight in the places you will be advertising.
9. I don’t know how to advertise online. There you go.
10. I don’t have time to run a business. Shave an hour a day off your tv watching and there you go…an extra 7 hours a week to build your business.
Now you have no more excuses. Even if you do, bring it on, I will prove you wrong on the spot. I’ve been marketing online for 10 years. I’ve tried nearly every type of online business there is to start.
I have been successful in some business ventures and have failed in others, but even the times I failed I am adult enough to admit that it wasn’t because it wasn’t possible to make money with those opportunities.
Every failure was a learning experience that brought me closer to where I am today. Don’t get me wrong, I am not where I ultimately want to be in my business, but I have made enough money in the 10 years I’ve been doing this to know the potential of where it can take me.
And to be honest with you, there are kids who have slipped in and made millions within a 1-2 year time frame, while I’m still working towards my million dollar year.
So what do I have to say for myself?
Well, I chalk my career up to the fact that I’m a stubborn entrepreneur who has to learn things the hard way. There are lessons I learned 10 years ago, that I have only in the last couple of years started to apply.
So the best advice I can give you today is don’t be like me!
I may be wasting my breath, because I know good and well if you are a true entrepreneur like me, you will do things your own way until you’ve been defeated by reality.
This blog is my way of sharing what I’ve learned through 10 years worth of hard earned lessons. By subscribing to my blog and/or newsletter, you can inherit a decade of experience thereby giving you a head start by eliminating the trial and error.
